With its tiny loaf-shaped body, curly pink mane, and sparkling pink eyes, this unicorn was designed to match my Pocket Loaf Piggy pattern and officially kick off what I think might become a whole Pocket Loaf collection 👀✨

WARNING – If this item is going to a small toddler under the age of 6, I recommend embroidering the eyes instead so they don’t pose a choking hazard.

🧶 Materials Needed

  • White yarn
  • Pink yarn
  • Purple yarn
  • Grey yarn (horn)
  • Crochet hook
  • Stuffing
  • Safety eyes
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Scissors

  • This pattern is worked in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise.
  • I recommend using a stitch marker to keep track of your rounds.
  • You can customise your unicorn using different mane, tail, or eye colours to create your own magical Pocket Loaf friend ✨

Abbreviations

Ch – Chain.

SC – Single Crochet.

Inc – Increase (2SC in same stitch).

Dec – Decrease (SC 2 stitches together).

FLO – Front Loop Only.

BLO – Back Loop Only.

DC – Double Crochet.

Sl-St – Slip Stitch.

St – Stitch.

Sts – Stitches.

MC – Magic Circle (otherwise known as Magic Ring).

Pattern.

Head/Body.

Round 1 – SC 6 into Magic Circle. (6 sts).

Round 2 – (Inc) 6 times. (12 sts).

Round 3 – (SC 1, Inc) 6 times. (18 sts).

Round 4 – (SC 2, Inc) 6 times. (24 sts).

Round 5 – (SC 3, Inc) 6 times. (30 sts).

Round 6 – (SC 4, Inc) 6 times. (36 sts).

Round 7 – SC 15, Ch 6, Skip 6 Stitches, SC 15.

Round 8 – SC 1 Round.

Round 9 – SC 14, (Into FLO of the same stitch – DC 2, Ch 2, Sl-St into 2nd Ch from hook, DC 2), SC 6, (Into FLO of the same stitch – DC 2, Ch 2, Sl-St into 2nd Ch from hook, DC 2), SC 14.

This creates the ears.

Round 10 – SC 14, (BLO Fold Ear down in front – SC 1), SC 6, (BLO Fold Ear down in front – SC 1), SC 14. (36 sts).

This allows you to continue with the body of the unicorn.

Round 11 – SC 3, (DC 4 Bobble Stitch – into the same stitch) SC 28, (DC 4 Bobble Stitch – into the same stitch) SC 3.

If you don’t know what the bobble stitch is I have provided a picture with step-by-step instructions for this stitch in my Premium PDF Version

Insert or embroider the eyes in-between rounds 4 and 5.

Rounds 12 – 19 – SC 8 Rounds. (36 sts).

Round 20 – SC 35, (DC 4 Bobble Stitch – into the same stitch).

Round 21 – SC 6, (DC 4 Bobble Stitch – into the same stitch), SC 29.

Round 22 – SC 1 Round.

Round 23 – (SC 4, Dec) 6 times. (30 sts).

Round 24 – (SC 3, Dec) 6 times. (24 sts).

Begin Stuffing.

Round 25 – (SC 2, Dec) 6 times. (18 sts).

Round 26 – (SC 1, Dec) 6 times. (12 sts).

Round 27 – (Dec) 6 times. (6 sts).

Fasten Off and Sew Up.

Horn.

Where you chained and skipped stitches at the front.

Insert hook into the stitches where the gap is.

Round 1 – SC 12 Stitches. (12 sts).

Round 2 – (SC 1, Dec) 4 times. (8 sts).

Round 3 – SC 1 Round.

You don’t have to stuff this piece but you can if you want to.

Round 4 – (Dec) 4 times. (4 sts).

Fasten Off and Sew Up.

Mane and Tail.

Make 6 Pieces all up. (For the pink and purple mane and tail, I made 3 of each colour).

Ch 26 stitches, starting in the 2nd Ch from the hook, SC 2 into each and every Ch.

This creates the spiral.

To join them to the Unicorn I crocheted them into the head and bottom with 2 SC stitches.

Sew in all the loose ends.

However if it’s easier for you, you can just sew them onto the unicorn.
